Alicia K. Harris is an award-winning filmmaker from Toronto. She graduated from Ryerson in 2016, and was awarded Best Director, and the Norman Jewison Award for Best Production for her thesis film Love Stinks. The film went on to win a Golden Sheaf Award (Yorkton Film Festival, 2017) and was licensed to CBC. Her work has also been broadcast on TVO, Bell FibeTV, and at numerous festivals. Alicia’s been supported by the Toronto and Ontario Arts Councils and the NFB. She is the co-founder of SUGAR GLASS FILMS, dedicated to creating films about women and marginalized groups.

En 2016, elle obtient son diplôme de Ryerson et reçoit le prix du meilleur réalisateur ainsi que le prix Norman Jewison pour la meilleure production pour son film de thèse Love Stinks. Kirsten Carthew’s debut feature film The Sun At Midnight (writer, director, producer), is a wilderness adventure drama shot at the Arctic Circle. The film has screened at 50+ festivals and won 9 awards. US and Australian theatrical releases are slated for 2018 and it is currently airing on HBO in Canada and Europe. Kirsten’s short genre film Fish Out of Water, premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival (2015), and went on to win awards and play the international cult festival circuit for two years. Screenwriting credits include the Brazilian box office feature Uma Loucura de Mulher (2016).

Le premier long métrage de Kirsten Carthew, The Sun At Midnight (scénariste, réalisatrice et productrice), est un drame d’aventure tourné en plein cœur du cercle arctique. Le film a été présenté dans plus de 50 festivals et a remporté 9 prix. Les sorties en salles aux États-Unis et en Australie sont prévues pour 2018 et il est actuellement diffusé sur HBO au Canada et en Europe. Kristen a aussi réalisé un court-métrage de genre, intitulé Fish Out of Water, qui a été présenté pour la première fois au Festival Fantasia en 2015 et a remporté des prix lors de son circuit dans des festivals internationaux de renommée pendant deux ans. En plus de ses divers projets, elle a notamment travaillé à la scénarisation du film brésilien Uma Loucura de Mulher (2016).

Asia Youngman is an award-winning Indigenous filmmaker from Vancouver, BC. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Victoria, and is an alumnus from Vancouver Film School where she studied visual effects compositing. With a passion for visual storytelling, Asia began her filmmaking career in 2016 with the production of her short documentary film Lelum. In 2018, Asia co-directed a short drama/comedy Te Kaitiaki, which was commissioned by the Maoriland Film Festival. She also co-directed a short documentary In The Valley Of Wild Horses that same year with the funding and support of Telus STORYHIVE.

Passionnée par la narration visuelle, Asia a commencé sa carrière de cinéaste en 2016 avec la production de son court métrage documentaire Lelum. Kathleen Hepburn is a Vancouver born writer/director, and a graduate of the CFC Writer’s Lab. Her debut feature, NEVER STEADY, NEVER STILL, which Variety Magazine calls a “stoically broken hearted debut” was produced by Experimental Forest Films and Christie Street Creative with UK actor Shirley Henderson (TRAINSPOTTING, SOUTHCLIFFE) and Théodore Pellerin (LES DEMONS, BOY ERASED) in the lead roles. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017, was awarded Best Canadian Film and Best Director by the Vancouver Film Critics Circle and went on to be nominated for 8 Canadian Screen Awards including Best Picture.

Kathleen Hepburn est une auteure et réalisatrice née à Vancouver et diplômée du Writer’s Lab du Centre canadien du film (CFC). Son premier long métrage, Never Steady, Never Still, que le magazine Variety qualifie de «début stoïquement brisé», a été produit par Experimental Forest Films et Christie Street Creative et met en vedette l’actrice britannique Shirley Henderson (Trainspotting, Southcliffe) et Théodore Pellerin (Les Démons, Boy Erased). La première du film a eu lieu au Festival international du film de Toronto en 2017, a reçu le prix du meilleur film canadien et du meilleur réalisateur au Vancouver Film Critics Circle et a été en nomination pour huit Prix Écrans Canadiens, dont celui du meilleur film.

Tiffany Hsiung is a filmmaker based in Toronto. Her debut award winning feature length documentary The Apology (2016) produced by the NFB, has won over a dozen awards internationally. This includes top 10 film at Hot Docs (2016), best documentary at Busan International Film Festival and Oslo International Film Festival to name a few. Nominated for an Allan King Award for Excellence in Documentary by the Director’s Guild of Canada, followed by a Peabody – Futures of Media Award (2018) and a Canadian Screen Award for Best Original Digital Production for The Space We Hold(2017). Hsiung’s passion both in filmmaking and education sparks a unique energy to change the status quo and bring critical stories to audiences around the world.

Tiffany Hsiung est une réalisatrice basée à Toronto. Son premier long métrage documentaire primé, The Apology (2016), produit par l’ONF, a remporté plus d’une douzaine de prix à l’échelle internationale, notamment le top 10 à Hot Docs (2016), ainsi que le meilleur documentaire au Festival international du film de Busan et au Festival international du film d’Oslo, pour n’en citer que quelques-uns. Elle a été en nomination pour un prix Allan King soulignant l’excellence documentaire par la Guilde canadienne des réalisateurs, puis pour un prix Peabody – Futures of Media (2018) et enfin aux Prix Écrans Canadiens pour la meilleure production numérique originale pour The Space We Hold (2017). La passion de Hsiung, tant pour la réalisation que pour l’éducation, suscite une énergie unique qui donne envie de changer le statu quo et de raconter des histoires critiques à des publics du monde entier.

A graduate in political science and film production from Montreal’s Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, Halima is a Canadian filmmaker of Moroccan descent. Her short film Mokhtar had an exceptional festival run and has travelled to more than one hundred international film festivals, winning more than 30 prizes, in addition to being broadcast on several channels. Filmed on super 16mm in a hamlet in southern Morocco, the film features local villagers, many goats and an owl. Of all the performers, only the owl is a professional actor. Today, Halima is writing her first feature film The Camel Driving School.

Diplômée en Sciences Politiques et en Film Production de la Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema de Montréal, Halima est une cinéaste canadienne d’origine marocaine. Son court-métrage « Mokhtar » a eu un parcours exceptionnel en festivals avec plus d’une centaine de sélections et une trentaine de prix, en plus d’avoir été diffusé sur plusieurs chaînes. Tourné dans un hameau du sud du Maroc, le film met en vedette les villageois, beaucoup de chèvres et un hibou. De tous les interprètes, seul le hibouest un acteur professionnel. Aujourd’hui, Halima termine l’écriture d’un long-métrage intitulé « La Camel Driving School ».

Originally from Russia and Switzerland, Kristina immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 2010, where she completed the Film Directing program at INIS. After directing, writing and producing several short-films, in the fall of 2017 she completed her first feature, Sashinka.  She co-wrote and directed the project, which was supported by Telefilm Canada’s Talent to Watch program. Her work has been showcased in several festivals including the Locarno Film Festival, Regard sur le court-métrage in Saguenay, Off-Courts Trouville and Oberhausen Short Film Festival.  Known for her sensitivity, off-beat humour and excellence in directing actors, Kristina has garnered numerous awards.

Originaire de Russie et Suisse, Kristina émigre au Canada en 2010 et étudie à l’INIS en réalisation. Après des nombreux courts-métrages, en octobre 2017 elle a terminé son premier long-métrage, en tant que coscénariste et réalisatrice, “Sashinka”, un film financé avec le programme Talents en vue de Téléfilm Canada. Avec ses films, elle a été sélectionnée dans de nombreux festivals, dont le Festival de Locarno, le Festival de Oberhausen, le Festival du Nouveau Cinéma et le Festival international de Seattle. Remarquée pour sa sensibilité, humour décalé et excellence dans la direction d’acteurs, Kristina collectionne un grand nombre de prix.

Allison White is an award-winning writer/director/producer whose films have screened at festivals across the world including the Toronto International Film Festival, the Fantastic Film Festival and Cannes. Her first feature film, Cast No Shadow swept the awards at its Canadian premiere at the Atlantic Film Festival, taking home six awards including Best Feature Film and Best Director. It went on to receive four nominations at the Canadian Screen Awards including Best Motion Picture. Allison is an alumnus of the Rotterdam Lab, Whistler’s Feature Project Lab, and IFP’s No Borders in New York.
