Play it Loud! How Toronto Got Soul
Synopsis:
Play it Loud! reveals Toronto's vibrant Jamaican music scene from the 1960's to the '90's, through the life and music of the legendary Jay Douglas. In 1963, 17 year old Douglas came to Canada to join his mother and was quickly swept up into a thriving, underground Black music scene as the lead singer of showstopping band The Cougars. Douglas enjoyed a storied music career as a headliner playing gigs across Canada from the most prestigious nightclubs to small town bars. He drifted into obscurity as a text book working musician until his long lost records were discovered and re-released, returning him to the spotlight.
